Olivia Gunter Will Proudly Wear Purple and Gold!!


Olivia Gunter signed a letter of commitment to LSU to become a member of the 2018 LSU Flying Tiger Gymnastics Team.  Olivia began gymnastics fourteen years ago when she attended Tiny Tumblers Preschool at North Shore Gymnastics.  Her hard work and fun loving personality has served her well during her journey, winning her many honors as well as the admiration of her coaches and teammates.  Olivia has scored numerous 10.0s on vault and even one 10.0 on beam!  She holds the North Shore record on these two events.  In addition to winning many State Championship Titles, she was the top scoring Level 10 in the Louisiana State Championships in 2016, winning the coveted Fruge award and qualifying to both Regionals and Junior Olympic Nationals.  Olivia is a Senior at Mandeville High School where she maintains a 4.2 grade point average.  She is a member of the National Honor Society and is interested in pursuing sports management at LSU.  North Shore could not be prouded of our graduating Senior!



Some of the members of the North Shore All Stars team competed at the Region 8 Xcel Regional Championships on May 11-14, 2017.  The competition was held in the Myrtle Beach Sports Center in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.  In order to achieve the honor of competing in this meet, these girls finished in the top six of each level at the Louisiana State Championships.

Three of the All Stars came home with Regional Titles.  Morgan Kane competed on Louisiana's Xcel Silver team, taking gold on vault with a 9.675.  She also placed 9th on beam with a 9.80 and 10th All-around with a 38.725. Her teammate, Rachel Ruoss tied for the regional title on vault and also placed 9th on bars with a 9.85.  North Shore's Xcel Silver team took home the 2nd place honors out of 56 teams in the region.  This honor was aided by Britney Williamson who placed 6th on vault-9.5, 10th on bars with a 9.80 and 10th All-around-38.50.  Lauren Schilling was the top scorer for Louisiana with a 4th place-38.90 finish.  Schilling also took 4th on beam and floor and 9th on vault and bars.  Kayla Hauck earned silver on bars with a 9.90.

In Xcel Bronze, North Shore took 4th place out of the 50 clubs represented and Louisiana's team scored 3rd in the region.  Naomi Bayley captured gold and a regional championship on floor with a 9.65.  Bayley also captured 3rd on bars-9.90, 3rd on beam-9.825 and 6th all-around with a 38.775.  Mia Pettavino was right behind her teammate with a 38.750-7th place finish.  She placed 5th on bars, beam and floor.  Holly Owens captured silver on beam-9.875, was 5th on floor and 9th on bars.  Isabelle Brown took 3rd on beam and 8th on floor.

Xcel Gold also had good success.  The top scoring Xcel Gold from Louisiana was Claire Rush with a 37.95 11th place finish.  She also placed 11th on vault and floor.  Jane Ellen Bilbe placed 7th on vault and Ansley Kavanaugh was 6th on floor.



Knower, Ballard and Kieff Qualify to National Championships

Julia Knower and Sierra Ballard competed in the Region 8 Championships in the Greensboro Coliseum Complex the weekend of April 9th.  Competing against hundreds of gymnasts from the eight states in Region 8, they were required to finish in the top seven in their respective age divisions to earn the honor of competing at Level 10 JO Nationals as part as Region 8s team.  As first year Level 10s, both were up for the challenge.  Knower placed 5th All-Around with a 37.075 aided by a solid Yurchenko full vault-9.375-6th place finish.  She also placed 5th on floor-9.40 and 7th on beam.  Ballard in the JRC division also placed fifth all-around with a consistent performance placing on every event-3rd on vault, 7th on bars, 3rd on beam and 8th on floor.  Both girls will travel to Indianapolis, Indiana the weekend of May 5th to vie for a championship title.

These efforts were followed by a solid performance by their teammate, Nikki Kieff.  Kieff finished 4th all-around to earn the honor of competing in Easterns the weekend April 28 in Diamondale, Michigan on the Region 8 team.  Kieff was holding gold on floor with a 9.5 until the last competitor who inched her out with a 9.6.  She finished 2nd on floor, 4th on vault, 5th on beam and 8th on bars.                                                                                                 


Boys Team Fair Well At Their First Regionals!

The Region 3 Men's Regional Championships were held at the Kansas City Expo Center in Kansas City, Missouri the weekend of March 3rd.  Dean and Alex Hopper and Dylan Harper were three of North Shores Level 6 boys who qualified to this event at their State Championship Meet.  Region 3 is made up of Arkansas, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Oklahoma and Texas.  

Out of these six states, Dean Hopper had a solid meet placing 6th All-Around in his age division with a 54.15, 4th on Pommel Horse, 6th on Still Rings and 7th on Parallel bars with a 9.7.  His brother Alex Hopper took 8th on Floor. Coach Cory Stephens said the highlight of the meet is that all three boys achieved their press to handstand on rings which is a bonus skill in this level.
