Knower, Ballard and Kieff Qualify to National Championships

Julia Knower and Sierra Ballard competed in the Region 8 Championships in the Greensboro Coliseum Complex the weekend of April 9th.  Competing against hundreds of gymnasts from the eight states in Region 8, they were required to finish in the top seven in their respective age divisions to earn the honor of competing at Level 10 JO Nationals as part as Region 8s team.  As first year Level 10s, both were up for the challenge.  Knower placed 5th All-Around with a 37.075 aided by a solid Yurchenko full vault-9.375-6th place finish.  She also placed 5th on floor-9.40 and 7th on beam.  Ballard in the JRC division also placed fifth all-around with a consistent performance placing on every event-3rd on vault, 7th on bars, 3rd on beam and 8th on floor.  Both girls will travel to Indianapolis, Indiana the weekend of May 5th to vie for a championship title.

These efforts were followed by a solid performance by their teammate, Nikki Kieff.  Kieff finished 4th all-around to earn the honor of competing in Easterns the weekend April 28 in Diamondale, Michigan on the Region 8 team.  Kieff was holding gold on floor with a 9.5 until the last competitor who inched her out with a 9.6.  She finished 2nd on floor, 4th on vault, 5th on beam and 8th on bars.                                                                                                 


Boys Team Fair Well At Their First Regionals!

The Region 3 Men's Regional Championships were held at the Kansas City Expo Center in Kansas City, Missouri the weekend of March 3rd.  Dean and Alex Hopper and Dylan Harper were three of North Shores Level 6 boys who qualified to this event at their State Championship Meet.  Region 3 is made up of Arkansas, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Oklahoma and Texas.  

Out of these six states, Dean Hopper had a solid meet placing 6th All-Around in his age division with a 54.15, 4th on Pommel Horse, 6th on Still Rings and 7th on Parallel bars with a 9.7.  His brother Alex Hopper took 8th on Floor. Coach Cory Stephens said the highlight of the meet is that all three boys achieved their press to handstand on rings which is a bonus skill in this level.

North Shore Staff Dress Up For The Kids!!

The North Shore Staff dressed up the week before Halloween and were part of a contest to win prizes.  The winner of the most votes by the gymnasts was Gabi Flores who dressed as a Hawaiian girl and did the "hula" for the kids all over the gym.  The prize for the most original were the "Bacon" and "Eggs" worn by Felicia Ferrante and Delaney Havrylkoff and the "Owners Choice" was Sarah Bender dressed in a Ninja Turtle costume with full facial paint...every day!!


Go Team USA!!

North Shore Gymnastics is celebrating Team USA the week of August 29 by wearing red, white & blue.  The winning class will receive free open gym passes!

Ballard Wins Eastern National Championship Title

Two Flairs qualified to National Championships held in Virginia Beach, Virginia the weekend of April 28-May1. Both athletes represented Region 8 in this competition.

The Junior 5 division won the national championship with a 150.825.  North Shore's, Sierra Ballard was the top scoring team member placing third with a 37.50.  Ballard also took 5th on floor mounting with a full and 1/2 back twisting lay to punch pike front, doing a front lay, front pike for her middle pass and ending with a full and 1/2 back twisting lay to front tuck. She nailed her back handspring, back lay and switch to straddle quarter to finish 6th on beam.  Abbie Vollenweider hit her meet full out and and aided her teammates in their second place team win.
