RACHEL
OPPENHEIM WINS ALL AROUND REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP
TITLE
Level
9 Flairs traveled to Huntsville, Alabama the
weekend of April 18-20 to compete against the top
Level 9 gymnasts from the eight states in Region
8. Rachel Oppenheim began bars with a solid
9.10 set. She followed this with a
beautifully executed 9.475 on beam which held
through the following rotations to earn her gold on
this event. After hitting her floor routine,
she went to vault knowing she was in or close to
being in the top spot. Feeling she probably
had to do her best vault of the season to hold this
position, she nailed the second vault to earn the
all around title in the Senior A division. Her
teammates, Victoria Spreen and Michelle Gauthier,
also had excellent meets. Victoria performed
her best bar routine of the season with a giant
half to overshoot to hand and ending with a full
twisting giant to immediate double back. This
9.525 effort earned her the Championship Title on
bars. A fall on beam knocked her down in the
all around but she still managed to capture a 10th
place finish. Michelle Gauthier had a steady
meet hitting every event without a fall and taking
bronze on floor. Several small errors dropped
her placement in the all around but still allowed
her to take a 10th place medal. All
three earned the honor of traveling to Dayton, Ohio
to compete in the Eastern National
Championships. Click
